I've been in recovery for ten years now, and am a strong advocate of both A.A. and Al Anon programs. I go to way more Al Anon meetings than A.A. meetings; I have to say that I agree with those who say A.A. is like college and Al Anon is Grad School. For me, that is true.
So anyway, I suggested that this person try to find the next A.A. meeting offered. I believe in getting that nearly instant relief from pain that only a meeting can provide. I say go to a meeting every day if you're in pain....hell, go to a meeting every hour until you get some serenity!
Then I co-taught a three-hour class on "Refinements in Asana." I am on the faculty of my yoga studio's Teacher Training program, and as you've seen from past entries I loooooove teaching the teachers-in-training.
I co-taught it with my friend Julie, who is also pregnant (with her SECOND baby) and is due in December. We were like the Buddha-belly mamas. We have a special bond because we studied under the same spiritual teacher, Mary Keator. And we're both Anusara-enthusiasts.
So it was FUN teaching with Julie. And this group of students is particularly great. They were open, funny, irreverent and supportive all in one. I think it is so magical to watch budding yoga teachers build their chops.
I felt pretty good all day today, with the exception of the hour that followed eating an Apple Fritter from Dunkin Donuts. UGH. I am not a sweets-eater. But I still haven't needed to wear my maternity support belt, and my pain is much less.
By the way, in case you're curious, here is what my maternity support belt looks like...and no, that's not me in the picture:
Of course, I rarely wear sheer black pantyhose, especially in the Summer or to yoga class, but if I did...
I kind of wish they were a little bit cooler-looking...like black leather, or at least sequined. I was thinking of giving it the Bedazzler treatment.
Burly men are so lucky. They get to wear those badass back support things and even look pretty cool while they're doing it, even if it blatantly says "I'm out of shape and I need lumbar support."
Check out THIS guy:

Maybe if I carry a hammer it will make me feel better. I am definitely in awe of women's strength when it comes to carrying babies and uh, GIVING BIRTH.
It kind of makes this rugged fellow seem like a wuss.
I will probably get a more elaborate support belt as Hercules continues to grow.
The great news is that I heard from my aforementioned troubled family member; they went to their first A.A. meeting and loved it.
