Yes, these first two years have been fun. In so many ways. Belly-laugh fun. Being completely surprised and delighted fun. The REAL fun.
But more than anything else, I think these first two years are about containment, and just keeping the child alive. And that requires vigilance on my part. Constant vigilance is tiring. But it has to be done, especially if mine are the only eyes, ears, and arms around to see, hear, and swoop in and arrest potentially dangerous act. It's like holding your body in a muscle or movement pattern that is not good for you for a really, really long time. Like hunching forward over your laptop, every day, for 12 hours a day, with your delicate wrists hitting the edge of the table and your chin in permanent lock down. Bad, bad, bad. And it's like the premise of that horrible movie that just came out with Cameron Diaz in it: you must protect the laptop and be vigilant about it, or somebody in the world gets it.
That is all.
Must go protect chihuahua from projectile racecar and truck.
